Core Facilities

To promote regular interaction among scientists and staff, the Tri-SCI is providing support for 3 research core facilities that encompass a range of functions, for the derivation and characterization and maintenance of current and new human embryonic stem cell lines. These facilities are easily accessible for investigators on the Tri-I campuses.

Derivation Unit at The Rockefeller University

The derivation unit at The Rockefeller University (Rockefeller) will derive new hESC lines from normal as well as diseased embryos to serve the needs of Tri-Institutional investigators. This facilty will isolate, characterize, and maintain all new hESC lines. This will complement the collection of cell lines from the NIH registry, hESC lines derived at other universities and transferred to investigators at Rockefeller, as well as all other hESC lines present within the Tri-Institutions.

The Stem Cell Research Facility at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center

The Stem Cell Research Facility at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center expands, characterizes and distributes non-NIH approved human embryonic stem (hES) cells isolated at the Weill Cornell Medical College and The Rockefeller University derivation core facilities.

Derivation Core and Experimental Somatic Cell Nuclear Transfer Laboratory
Weill Cornell Medical College

Under development and part of the Tri-SCI is a new derivation and Experimental Somatic Cell Nuclear Transfer Core (SCNT) facility, housed at Weill Cornell Medical College (WCMC). This core will complement the existing facilities and develop into the main resource for deriving novel human ES cell lines within the Tri-Institutions.
